The road to the NCAA Tournament will be tougher for the University of Memphis beginning with the 2013-14 season as a member of the Big East.
College basketball experts agree on that.
Gone will be the days when Memphis was expected to lock up an NCAA Tournament bid by running roughshod through Conference USA, as it did from 2005-09 under John Calipari.
It's goodbye to the East Carolinas, Tulsas and Rices that Memphis has feasted on in recent years and hello to the Villanovas, Notre Dames and Providences.
And hello again to former C-USA rivals Louisville, Cincinnati, Marquette, DePaul and South Florida.
On basketball tradition alone, the move makes plenty of sense for Memphis. But is it necessarily better for the program?
